Before and Aftercare for Beauty Treatments

DERMA SR SKIN NEEDLING TREATMENT (Usually in conjunction with a Derma SR Peel)

To ensure you achieve the best possible results from your treatment, we recommend:

Before your appointment:

  • Avoid: facial exfoliating including chemical peels, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion and facial waxing for 2 weeks prior to your appointment
  • Avoid: saunas or swimming pools 24 hours prior to your appointment
  • Avoid: any blood thinners such as; alcohol, aspirin, caffeine and anti inflammatories 24 hours prior to your appointment

After your appointment:
Your skin will look flushed/red and dewy immediately after the treatment, at least for the first 12 hours please do not apply makeup to cover this. The result of the treatment can be visible only after the complete regeneration process which takes about 7 – 10 days, during this time you are asked to clean your face very gently especially for the first 7 days post treatment and to avoid visiting saunas or swimming pools.

The treated areas must be protected against UV radiation (sun, sunbeds) by using a high sun protection factor of 30+ throughout the treatment period. During the regeneration phase you may also experience the following additional side effects.

Frequently:

  • Slight localised bleeding (pin prick)
  • Skin irritation (warming and tingling of the skin due to stimulation of the circulation)
  • usually occurs only in the first 12 to 72 hours after treatment.
  • Tension and pulling sensation on the first day after treatment.
  • Short term redness up to 6 days after the treatment are normal.
  • Light micro scab (drops off after 5 days)
  • Short-term scaling/flaking of the skin up to 8 days after treatment.

Rare:

  • Blistering (herpes, blisters). Important: Active herpes must not be treated!
  • Formation of small irritations or grit like spots (mostly due to improper cleaning of the skin before or after treatment)
  • Hyperpigmentation (especially with dark skin types) usually disappears after a few weeks.
  • Inflammatory reactions (hematomas)

To ensure you achieve the best possible results from your treatment, we recommend:

Before your appointment:

During your appointment:
When performing an acid peel, irritation such as reddening of the skin, dandruff, burning or possibly crusting can occur, especially at the beginning. This is usually harmless and only affects the top layer of skin. During the course of your treatment series, over time, these first symptoms decrease as the skin adjusts to the exposure of the acid peel.

After your appointment:

  • Apply the moisturising cream as directed by your therapist, the following evening after a professional peel.
  • Avoid: Sun exposure for a minimum of 24 hours, and continue to refrain from excessive sun exposure for an additional 8 weeks after your last treatment series.
  • It is imperative that you apply a high level of sun protection cream SPF 30 + daily, for the entire duration of your skin treatment series and into the future in order to protect your investment.
  • You may reapply your usual makeup the day after the treatment.

Possible side effects or complications:
In rare cases, small oozing wounds and delayed wound healing is possible and in extremely rare cases small scarring can occur. It is therefore very important that you do not scratch, pick or rub the skin on the peeling areas. Please also resist the urge to squeeze pimples. Keep in mind that negligent action can lead to pigment shifts.
